The Baymont by Wyndham Traverse City receives mixed reviews, with significant concerns regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and overall condition. While some guests appreciate the friendly staff and basic amenities, frequent complaints highlight issues like mold, damaged rooms, and poor service. The property appears to be struggling with upkeep and may not meet expectations for its price point.
Started the stay skeptically because of the reviews. While I can see why the reviews are a little lower, I don’t think it’s fully deserved. The building is run down from lack of maintenance/ updates but it looks like they do a fine job keeping things acceptably clean for how dog friendly the hotel is.
Very close to the hospital and food. The GPS has the wrong location listed though so originally it took us 20 minutes away. We had to call to get the right directions. The clerks were very nice and accommodating. The hotel itself is old and not maintained. Windows were cracked. My hair dryer almost caught on fire and had to be swapped out. The shower was dirty and the curtains cover over the heating/cooling unit so it's not efficient. They need to replace the curtains with a different style so it doesn't cover the blower. Our room had torn drywall, missing tile, and a missing drain cover in the sink. The office chair had white stains on it. Looks like someone put salty boots on it and they couldnt carpet clean it after. We paid $75 a night. For this hotel we felt safe, but it felt dirty. If you stay here, just don't expect a nicer updated hotel. This is the bare minimum standard for that price point. I recommend booking at the Hilton or a nearby hotel and skip this one due to the cleanliness issues if you are squeamish about that. The breakfast area space looked promising but then they didnt have eggs or many options in the morning.
Best hospitality, rooms are on point. Freshly baked everyday cookies to die for. Chris and Paul are absolutely incredible. The whole staff really. Came here for a month plus business trip and I would highly recommend. Makes you feel like home away from home .
I recently stayed at this hotel and it was absolutely vile. Right when I stepped into the elevator, I knew booking here was a mistake. The elevator, hallways, and stairwells reeked of mildew and trash. Any time I had to leave the room I covered my nose and mouth. I found black mold in the bathroom. I went to the pool and was accompanied by unattended children screaming at the top of their lungs. While in the pool I noticed that the pool was falling apart to the point that was friend was injured by glass found in the pool. My biggest regret is that I did not read the reviews before booking. I am not one to write reviews about negative experiences. However, I have never stayed in a hotel as bad as this one.
We stayed on the 2nd floor and towards our side of the hallway it smelled like steamed Brussel sprouts or some sort of water damage had happened. In our room the bottom of the cabinet had water damage, and the ceiling in the bathroom had what appeared to be mold spores growing. Our room appeared to be missing a section of curtain as there was a huge gap between the curtain and window where we can see the parking lot lights while trying to sleep. Our room also smelled strange to where we had to buy room fresheners. The bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Overall it was mediocre for the amount of money we paid for 2 nights. My group overall agreed we would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again when we return to Traverse.
Moldy smell through the hotel! Beds were very hard for me. Breakfast was ok. The washing machine and soap machine took my money . The staff works hard with what they have and house keeping are very courteous. There is one employee that was very courteous at the front desk didn’t get his name but he was blonde headed. The rest were very rude! Maybe the conditions they had to work with were not good. Also the pool was nice and the small work out room was decent.
Room was clean except for finding two bugs on the walls. My elderly mother and I stayed 2 nights to visit our family in the area. The beds were too high for us to sit on or try to put socks on etc. I am 5’4” and had to crawl up. In addition, we never received maid service or fresh towels during our stay. Breakfast was good and had waffles. We did have a problem finding a seat as space was limited for amount of people staying here.
