The Delamar Traverse City receives generally positive reviews, particularly during the off-season, with guests praising its beautiful bay views, comfortable rooms, and excellent service. However, recent reviews highlight issues with unavailable amenities during the winter months and inconsistent service experiences.
I paid just over $130- for the room rate in the winter, which was honestly a steal for the quality of the hotel. Yes, the coffee bar and mini bar prices are outrageous. The outdoor pool and hot tub weren't open even though they were supposed to be, but I still thought it was a great stay for the price.
Even though it is the winter on the bay we had a lovely time at The Delamar. Outdoor heated pool in the snow was fun. Hot tub and sauna were wonderful. Staff helpful, room was nice and clean. I made sure they didn’t charge me for anything I didn’t eat or drink out of my room, and they never did. Everything was clean. I will say the atmosphere is more like an adults only resort. I have 4 kids but I really appreciate that it was quiet and relaxing. I wouldn’t bring my kids and that’s okay.
Winter get away everything was great both pools were perfect temperatures hot tub is hot and sauna was cooking. Food and drink awesome and the staff kind and friendly everywhere. Downtown TC is very close but it was too cold to really enjoy it.
Stayed here awhile back for a mid winter get away and was not impressed by the outcome. The outdoor pool was certainly not warm enough to swim but that's not the reason for a bad review. Our room was a suite that was under construction. When we got to our room we noticed it was completely bare minus a TV and stand. It had a clothes rack in it to hang up clothes which we thought was odd. Come to find out our room was under construction and was not supposed to be rented out. When we talked with the manager he confirmed the room was not supposed to be rented out and they would give us a complimentary two night stay in the future. When we called to use it a manager change had happened and the new manager would not honor our agreement even though I have the email. It was extremely disappointing.
We’ve celebrated NYE last year, the year before last, and the year before that…Delamar earned five stars. This year was a flop, the hotel was disappointing. The outdoor pool wasn’t open except on New Year’s Eve, and even then, it had limited hours (11-9). Complimentary coffee and water in the lobby was gone, which meant we were left to order from the pool bar and wait in a long line. We always looked forward to sitting in the lounge by the fireplace, it’s super cozy; however the fire wasn’t working at all. When I posed a complaint, the manager / bellhop said he’d give me 50% off my stay. Upon leaving, I requested a paper receipt and he only took 50% our first night which was conveniently cheaper than NYE night. When I asked about it, the girl at the front desk condescendingly pointed out to me that he directed her to explain it was just for the first night. She stared at me, without blinking, burning a pitiful lasting impression of this place in my mind and said, “we did this for you since the fireplace wasn’t working.” Boo ? Positive part: five stars for the room, Chris the bartender, and these fresh flowers. Oh, and the tall dude that says “happy new year” on Jan 1.
Very dissapointed with our stay here this December. The only reason we stayed here was for the heated outside pool. Both the inside pool and hot tub were closed and the outdoor pool was too cold to use (not the advertised 93 degrees). The front desk was only able to offer a gift card that expired the next day that we spend on an overpriced breakfast we weren't even planning on eating there. Rooms were nice and clean but didn't make up for the unavailable amenities.
I've traveled and stayed at 100s of hotels. This is one of not the best hotel experience in my 56 years. From the amenities to cost. Of course it's off season and cost was down. Having the indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna was wonderful. Clean and spacious. The cabanas and outdoor pool in the winter time was amazing. Coffee was great as was the salmon salad and cocktails. Rooms were clean and spacious with nice views. Staff was great and helpful. We were at the Hampton for two nights of our anniversary and we're looking for a night in some nice comfy hotel. This place was it! We added 2 more nights to our stay and enjoyed every minute. Such a cozy clean hotel. Love the complimentary wine special and discount for the 2 night stay. Also the complimentary hot chocolate everywhere. If we visit Traverse City again, we will stay here. The Christmas decorations were great!
Absolute best location! BUT… need new shower heads, ability to block all outside light from windows (thought it was daylight all night=poor sleep) and the live music MUST be in the lounge room where the fire is. Sitting in a “cafe” with many workers walking by and the stupid milk frother going the entire night ruined the absolute BEST live music I have EVER heard during a hotel stay! The music would have hit better next to the fire! Do better and appreciate people who are talented!
Our Traverse City, Michigan wedding (ceremony at St Joseph’s Catholic Church on Old Mission Peninsula to the cocktail hour and reception at Delamar) was everything I could have imagined and more. We first booked Delamar about 18 months before our wedding day and the attention to detail and care from their staff was noticed since day 1 of planning. We made trips to Delamar throughout the planning process for meetings, tastings, and just to relax. The hotel feels Northern Michigan Luxe and offers options for everyone. My favorites include their restaurant, cafe (which just opened!), and the incredible views of the bay. We love Delamar so much that I even had my bachelorette party there and enjoyed their private dining room and incredible summer outdoor patio with live music. On the wedding weekend, we were so pleased to work with all the incredible staff. They make our many guests check-ins a breeze. We even had a family paddle board and kayak day of Delamar’s beach the day before the wedding. The actual cocktail and reception felt like something out of a dream especially with the touches from Thistledown Floral and Event Theory Rentals. The FOOD IS THE BEST!!! We got so many compliments on our wedding menu (the steak + Great Lakes white fish + cherry salad + cheesecake specifically) and how awesome the bar staff was. Truly, everything was perfect. Delamar + Event Team, THANK YOU. We will always be back. Love, The Papalkos (08.09.2025)
My wife and I stayed at the Delamar Traverse City on September 8th and 9th, 2025. This was our first time at the Delamar and it was our sixth stop on our trip around Lake Michigan. We stayed in a Bay View King Room. The Delamar is outstanding! The attention to detail throughout the hotel and the rooms is top notch. The view from our room right on Traverse Bay was stunning. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and great at their jobs. Getting champaign at checkin was a treat. Dining at the Delamar was excellent (food and service were great). The outdoor bar had wonderful views of Lake Michigan. The vibe was fun. Drinks were creative and tasty. The Delamar even has beach access to Lake Michigan, which we took advantage of and greatly enjoyed. We highly recommend the Delamar for lodging, dining and having a drink!
