Guests praise the cozy, bay-facing rooms, comfortable beds, and fireplaces, noting top-tier staff treatment and a welcoming lobby atmosphere. However, mixed reviews highlight inconsistent housekeeping standards, occasional aggressive interactions from front desk staff, and policies that prohibit cancellations during inclement weather.

We stayed this past week and really enjoyed our stay overall. Stacey at the front desk was wonderful, helpful, and social with us. We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the staff was until our check out morning when we were treated very rudely by a front desk staff member (I believe her name was Mary). My husband called that morning to ask for a late check out. He then went to work in the lobby area so that we could check out on time and so that he could take his work meetings. She seemingly racially profiled my husband when she approached him as he was working in the common space and was tapping her wrist that he needed to check out. She didn’t confirm who he was, what his room was, or if he even was checking out that morning. We had no in person contact with her for her to know who we were or when our check out was. The energy was “you need to leave”. Unfortunate end to an otherwise great stay.

Every room in this lodge faces the bay. What a unique experience! The cleanliness throughout the lobby and game areas was pristine. Not a cobwed or dust in sight. Floors were freshly mopped even in the middle of wintery weather. The rooms weren't quite as spotless but still nice. My family enjoyed playing games and doing a puzzle by the fireplace in the lobby. You can also borrow puzzles, games or a few books to enjoy in your own room. The fireplaces in the rooms made it perfect for bundling up during our winter stay. Even the smaller rooms have plenty of space while still feeling cozy. Fresh coffee and hot chocolate at any time of the day and fresh-baked cookies at 7pm. You can't beat it! Our room had washer/dryer as well which was a god send The front desk {Carley)was especially friendly and kind. It was so refreshing and was the main reason why we decided to stay here. Can't wait to come back and stay during the summer to enjoy the bay. ETA We had trouble with our toilet clogging from the get go. The front desk girl immediately called someone to fix it. We had to mop the toilet water up with the towels from the room after he left. Unfortunately, once we setlled for bed we realized it remained clogged so we had to use the bar bathroom throughout the night. The next morning, we requested to switch rooms. While helpful, the different morning staff didn't offer anything for the inconvenience. We switched rooms, but had to wait a few hours as a comparable room wasn't available. This required our family to pack everything up and leave it on a cart while we went into town. We also paid more for the next night's stay as it was a slightly bigger room. I would have appreciated an immediate move to an available room, even if it was bigger, at no upcharge. It was pretty inconvenient to have to walk our minor children to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Recently made a reservation for one night in January (a very quiet season). Two days before our reservation we called to cancel due to a major storm in the area. We were told they would not cancel it and we would have to pay for the reservation. They also would not provide a credit for a future stay, we were just out for the entire cost of the stay. On top of that, they were rude and even though I requested a manager contact me, it never happened. There was a winter weather warning, ten inches of snow, ice, wind, etc. The wineries in the area were closed for two days because of the weather. The cost was not worth the risk of driving in such conditions. It’s too bad that this property doesn’t value the safety of its patrons. We have stayed many times before and will not be returning in the future.

We absolutely loved this place as the rooms were beautiful, just what we were looking for. However, after leaving, I found they charged my card for additional 250. When we called them to see why, they claimed that the unit was a mess, with "beer everywhere" and "hair in the bathtub." When we tried to question it, they promptly hung up. I have never heard anything more ridiculous. We had a handful of empty bottles on the counter for returns and two bottles of wine open on the table. We were careful about making sure the unit was as clean as you'd expect a considerate family to leave a room. If their housekeeping can't handle a few bottles and a little hair in the bathtub then what are they doing as housekeepers. I've worked for my fair share of resort hotels and have seen some pretty trashed units and never once charged someone that should not have been charged.

Excellent, we got a 2 bedroom suite in the off season. Gorgeous view of the bay. Cabin kind of feel with wood trim and fireplace. Loved the soaker tub next to the bed. Full kitchen and very large suite. Sweet staff and immediate response from maintenance for a slow flush toilet. Everyone was great. Free coffee and tea bar 24 hrs a day. Will definitely be staying here when we return to traverse City.

We stayed at Tamarack Lodge for only 1 night as we traveled north. The bed was so comfortable, the room was so cozy and we had some wine by the fireplace. Our room had a balcony with view to the lake. Even though it was very cold that night, we enjoyed the view. We definitely will be back there again.

Seriously one of our favorite places to stay. It's always a wonderful experience. When we arrived we learned they upgraded our room and it was wonderful. We enjoyed it. Can't wait until next year when we go back again. ~Coburns

There are a lot of places you could stay in Traverse City. If you want to find a first-class motel close enough but not to far from it all....really just minutes away from anything...stay at Tamarack Lodge. We stayed there last weekend (10-31-25 to 11-1-25) and just loved it; we intend to make it a key part of our 2026 Fall Color Tour and plan on staying again in the Spring, 2026. The staff was very helpful.... lead by Bridget in the evening and Liz in the morning. On both nights we were there, your entrance into the lobby was proceeded with the smell of "home-made cookies".... there just waiting for you! Find your new home away from home in Traverse Cit, Tamarack Lodge!

This used to be one of the best. Not anymore! The property is extremely dated with Jacuzzi tub in bathroom and lower than comfort height toilet. The thermostat didn’t work and the first floor room became very uncomfortable. The coffee machine produces bad coffee. We stayed here some years ago and were looking forward to our stay this week, however we were very disappointed in the current experience and will not return.
