Park Place Hotel and Conference Center receives mixed reviews, suggesting it’s a location-dependent property with significant aging issues impacting the guest experience. While praised for its location, staff friendliness, and some amenities, concerns frequently highlight outdated rooms, cleanliness problems, and operational difficulties such as elevator issues and unreliable transportation. Recent reviews indicate a sharp decline in quality when compared to the hotel’s historical reputation and premium pricing.
Great location, but hotel needs a reno to be worth the prices. Shabby chic. Windows were very dirty. My view was beautiful though, corner room over the Bay in the historic tower. Do not use Uber, they canceled my trip overnight and I was left without transportation to the airport for a return flight. Front lady had recommended Uber but they really aren’t reliable.
Employees were very friendly and helpful. Also the hot tub was very big and nice. There's also a bar on top of the building with a great view of Lake Michigan. The place however could use a lot of updates. Our bathroom in our room was tiny. When you got ready in front of the mirror in the bathroom you had to shut the door or else it would cover up half the counter to where you had to lean around it. Also there was no ice machine on our floor and the one on the floor below us was out of order. Had to go two floors down to find ice. Also the cost was over 380 a night. For that cost we should have had an awesome room. It definitely wasn't. Only good thing about the room was the beds were comfortable. Breakfast not included in that exorbitant price either
Extremely disappointed! Our first visit to Traverse City snd wanted our hotel choice to be wonderful. Booked a bay view corner rm months in advance so a bit pricier, but an expansive view of the bay was important to us. Several days before visit called to confirm our rm would be what we were expecting & staff confirmed. However view was only partial bay view & primarily rooftops. Asked for a better view and told nothing available so very misleading!! The hotel is lacking attention to detail…shade broken in bathroom, no bathrm fan, room service dishes sitting in hallway for 3 days, carpet had stains etc. Redeeming features are the convenient location & rooftop bar which does have a great view. Kudos to Brian for an amazing espresso martini & whiskey sour. Come on Park Place…get your act together, you can do much better than this.
We stayed at Park Place this past weekend and enjoyed our visit. Everyone at the front desk was pleasant and helpful. We had a room on the 6th floor and although small, it was very clean and modern! No issues with hot water either. Only downside in the room was the toilet seat would not stay up. The only real annoyance was the main elevator was not working, so only the Service Elevator was usable. Several times we ended up using the stairs due to the wait. Enjoyed breakfast at Minerva’s as well having drinks at Top of the Park! Had a very nice weekend there!
I had a very pleasant stay at the Park Place hotel. Per other comments on the site, the hotel overall could use some touchups due to aging. But overall, I really liked the hotel. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and the room was clean and actually pretty large. I had not problems with the wifi either as I needed for work.
I hosted a memorial visitation and luncheon at the Park Place to honor my grandmother. The staff, location, food, and service were all exceptional. I live locally in Traverse City and have always heard great things about hosting events at the Park Place, but this was my first time. I would absolutely host another event there and recommend it to anyone needing a venue. Sasha, in particular, has exceptional customer service skills. She made sure everything was set up and ran smoothly for both events. Scott, the catering manager, was also a joy to work with. He had excellent recommendations and helped guide me through the entire planning process. Everyone who attended both events was blown away by the view and the food! Planning for a memorial service of course can be challenging, but the staff at the Park Place helped navigate through all of the details and made it as easy for me as possible. I will always be grateful for how special the services were they provided for me and for my family.
Great location in downtown Traverse City. The room we were put in had a very small bathroom. The carpet was very stained and had pet hair. The bed also had pet hair in it and smelled like dog. Rooms could definitely use some updates and improve on cleanliness between guests. The pool/ hot tub was the best part about our stay. We also had a very disturbing neighbor during our stay. The front desk could also be more friendly and welcoming.
We chose this hotel because of its historic character and were really looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, the significant wear and tear throughout the property took away from what should have been a special stay. We paid a premium price for our room, yet it felt more comparable to a budget hotel rather than a historic property with character and charm. The restaurant also showed noticeable signs of neglect. Our breakfast table was in such worn condition that it genuinely felt uncomfortable to sit at, giving the impression of being unclean due to age and deterioration. This was disappointing, especially in a setting that should celebrate its history with pride and care. That said, the staff deserves sincere recognition. Everyone we interacted with was extremely kind, welcoming, and efficient, which truly made a difference in our stay. I hope there are plans in place to invest in updates and maintenance, as this building clearly has great potential. With proper care, it could once again reflect the historic quality and experience that guests expect — especially at premium prices.
5 STARS for my experience. Yesterday was my 70th birthday and upon checking in the clerk asked if we were here for any special occasion. My husband said yes and that it was my 70th birthday. The clerk was so kind, he upgraded us to the most beautiful room I’ve ever stayed in!!!! Plus 2 free drink vouchers for the top floor cocktail bar. Needless to say this all made for a very memorable 70th!!! Thank you, Joanie
Grateful we got the Black Friday pricing for discount. Stayed in West Wing, brought our two dogs and paid an extra $50/night for having them. I don’t mind paying extra to have my dogs; however, I anticipate the room to be immaculate when we have to pay so much extra per night. What I found was very different. Very small bathroom with ill fitting toilet seat. I called the front desk to ask if it was possible there was no hot water and the person who answered replied, “no, you just have to let it run for a hot minute.” I had already been running 2 sinks and the shower for 3 minutes and no sign of even warm water. We ended up getting hot water after 10 minutes of running all three. The carpets were very dirty and stained. The bed was comfy. The location is amazing.
